The building of the Old Exchange (Borsa Vecchia) now houses the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce: characterized by severe neoclassical lines it transmits a triumphalism typical of Doric temple. In the niches enlivening the frontispiece on the ground floor and first floor are placed allegorical statues representing Asia, Volcano, Europe, Africa, Mercury, America. In the gable end take place other sculptures: the genius of Trieste, Neptune, Minerva and the Danube. The bas-reliefs representing the trade, shipping, industry and abundance are the work of A. Bosa, such as the ones that enliven the long walls inside the reception hall. On the hall front a big clock was placed by the famous local watchmaker A. Sebastianutti, author also of the sundial situated in the large entrance hall and dated 1820. The first floor is characterized by high paired Corinthian columns holding up the vaults and by the small daises characterized by elegant balustrades columns. The ceiling, painted by G.B. Bison depicts the Proclamation of the free port by Charles IV.
