By selecting a bed and breakfast located near the Mariano Temple on the Karst you will have the opportunity to discover the small villages of Prosecco, Villa Opicina, Monrupino, Rupingrande, Rupinpiccolo, Sgonico, Sales, Samatorza, Ternova, Precenico and Malchina, characterized by ancient stone houses from vineyards, fig trees and small taverns, called "osmizze", where you can enjoy smoked ham, typical products and a good glass of Terrano or Prosecco wine.
A trail starting from the village of Prosecco leads, through pine and copses woods, to the top of the Grisa Mountain at an altitude of 355 mt a.s.l. from which you can admire an amazing sweeping view. In this area, where the ridge of the Karst slopes sharply, like suspended between sky and sea, the Mariano Temple lies. It is one of the boldest and most authentic religious monuments of our age. Its size, its space and its strict lines are dictated by a strong modernity. Since from the ancient times the triangular shape, repeated in every detail, has been interpreted as a symbol and expression of the man’s spirituality, as a desire to break away from earthly things and get closer to God. The interior of the temple is devided into two levels, the "lower church" and "the upper church": the first consists of a large hall of the framed cross piers escape; the main altar is dedicated to those who died without the cross and along the walls are lined many altars. The "upper church" instead has only three altars: the presbytery and the two laterals dedicated to the Madonna and the Santissimo. The windows covering an area equal to 1800 square meters create particularly evocative light effects. The construction of the temple was directed by the engineer Giulio Pagnini on the design of the architect Antonio Guacci and it was completed in 1965; on May 22nd 1966 it was solemnly consecrated.
